Description

Sound familiar?

  • Fuel receipts, garage bills and insurance renewals everywhere – and no idea what the car really costs to run.
  • The MOT, tax, registration or insurance renewal sneaks up on you.
  • You can’t remember when the oil, brake fluid or cambelt was last done.
  • Business mileage is a scramble at the end of the year.

What the Car Logbook does

It’s one workbook for all your cars. Log fill-ups, jobs and bills as they happen and the Dashboard does the rest: spend by month, real-world economy, cost per mile AND per km, services due, renewals due and business miles – for one car or all of them, for any year.

What’s inside

  • Dashboard – 14 live tiles, a monthly breakdown, service alerts, upcoming renewals and charts
  • Garage – up to 5 cars with lifetime spend and cost per mile/km
  • Fuel log – economy worked out between full tanks; a mistyped odometer turns red (1,000 rows)
  • Maintenance & Service Schedule – intervals by distance or months, flagged OK, DUE SOON or OVERDUE
  • Tyres & Tires – each set with distance and age
  • Running Costs – insurance, tax / registration, inspections, parking, tolls, finance, EV charging
  • Trip Log – business miles totalled and valued at your own rate
  • Renewals – the next six on the Dashboard, with a warning 30 days before

Made for your country

Pick UK, USA, Canada, Australia or New Zealand on the Dashboard and the sheet switches to match: spellings (Tyres / Tires, Colour / Color), the £ or $ in headings, and the running-cost and renewal lists (MOT and road tax in the UK; registration and inspection in the USA and Canada; rego, CTP and roadworthy in Australia; rego, WoF and RUC in New Zealand). Switch any time – your totals stay the same.

Format

  • Your blank spreadsheet (.xlsx, international edition for the UK, USA, Canada, Australia and New Zealand), ready for your cars
  • A filled-in DEMO copy with two example cars (a Ford Focus and a VW Transporter), so you can see every tab working before you start
  • A PDF user guide: set-up, every tab explained, tips and answers to common questions
  • Works in Microsoft Excel 2019 or newer, Microsoft 365, Excel for the web and Google Sheets
  • No macros, nothing to install, no subscription
  • White cells are for you to fill in; grey cells work themselves out. Anything typed as text by mistake turns pink so nothing is silently missed

How it works

  1. Buy and download the files straight away.
  2. Open the spreadsheet in Excel, or upload it to Google Sheets.
  3. Look through the DEMO and the PDF guide, pick your country on the Dashboard, then add your car to the Garage and log your next fill-up.

Car Logbook FAQ

How does it work out cost per mile?

It adds up fuel, maintenance, tyres and running costs for the car and year you pick, and divides by the distance from your fuel log – per mile and per km.

Can I track more than one car?

Yes – up to five, each with its own totals, or all together.

Does it work for an electric car?

Yes – log charging under Running Costs › EV Charging. The fuel economy tiles are for petrol, diesel and hybrid cars.

Can I use the Trip Log for tax?

It keeps a clear record of business journeys and values them at the rate you type. It isn’t tax advice, so check the rate that applies to you.

Do I need Microsoft Excel?

No. It works in Excel 2019 or newer, Microsoft 365, the free Excel for the web, and Google Sheets.

Is it a subscription?

No – you pay once and the file is yours to keep.

I’m not good with spreadsheets. Is this for me?

Yes. You only type in the white cells – everything else works itself out – and the DEMO and PDF guide show you exactly what to do.

Does it work on a Mac, iPad or phone?

Yes on a Mac (Excel or Google Sheets). On an iPad or phone it works in the Google Sheets or Excel app, though a bigger screen is easier for setting up.

How do I get my file?

Straight after checkout you’ll see download links, and they’re emailed to you too.
